Jasmine Reimer, Frogs of Fortune

Supporting artists we love to make new work can sometimes mean finding new homes for existing work! We are excited to try this new take on our platform (now five years old!!) with the very limited sale of works by Winnipeg-born, Berlin-based (Future Futures) artist Jasmine Reimer. Jasmine’s Frogs of Fortune series was part of a vast body of work the artist developed over a number of years, which culminated in the creation of an immersive green world installed at the Forest Gallery in 2018, for the exhibition “Of, In or Under”. “Of, In or Under” was an immersive space consisting of approximately 150 green objects, sculptures, materials, forms and entities. This exhibition also included Jasmine’s “Me and My Earth Cult”- thirty-seven owls-as-self-portrait sculptures, one for each year of life, completed in 2018 – a self portrait of the artist like no other – and the work that made us fall in love with Jasmine’s work.

Each piece in the Frogs of Fortune edition is unique (that means one of a kind:) and available to Art Futures lovers for $350 (for the smaller frogs) or $450 (for the larger ones) + tax and shipping. Each piece comes with a signed Certificate of Authenticity…and of course, good luck and good fortune.

Reimer has been awarded many grants and awards including the Canada Council for the Arts Project Grant and Ontario Arts Council Project Grant in 2017 and 2015, Social Sciences, Research and Creation grant (SSHRC) in 2014 and British Columbia Arts Council Professional Development grant in 2011. In February 2017, she released her first book of poetry titled, Small Obstructions.

Reimer’s multi-sensorial worlds contains organic elements, such as plants and insects, banal goods including toilet paper and dishes, and frogs, snakes, snails, branches, fingers…accurately cast in dynamic green detail and all of which are ‘beings’. Her sculptural works, made through casting, assemblage and resurfacing, speak to the significance of transformation, alterity and the complex task of remaining fluid.
