IHYW work in progress

Brendan Fernandes, Still Life

SOLD OUT

Together at last! In the studio, under watchful blank stares…
Finally got to pick up our hand finished, cast rubber plinths today! Here, in the studio, with heads of course….
Working on casting the rubber plinth. Plinths play an important role in Brendan’s practice, with their bestowing of authority and value. Our plinth takes on the form and lines of a traditional plinth. But it is rubber. It is squishy and fleshy…unexpected and subversive.
Casting call. 8 halves of Still Life waiting for their rubber plinths. That’s the model, top left.

The inspiration for Still Life, started with a performance and video installation, called Still Move. Still Move (video still), 2014. Image copyright of the artist.

Brendan has sketched up a few proposed plinths for our prototypes, to give an idea of the finished piece. While we are still exploring materials for this element, our preferred direction right now is rubber. Yes, rubber. Image copyright of the artist.

We have images of our prototypes and, oh my, are they seductive! Image copyright of the artist.
